Frequently Asked Questions
How do I join?
Check out any of our classes, or subscribe to our mailing list! (contact presidents@dancesportatosu.org)

What if I have never danced before?
That's fine! We teach you everything you need to know and start from the ground up. We welcome dancers of all levels, and you can find the right class for the pace you need.

What should I wear?
Wear anything that you feel comfortable moving around in. The most important article of clothing is footwear. Since you may be pivoting or spinning on your feet, flip-flops are not recommended. Ballroom dance shoes are great to have, but are not necessary for learning beginner steps.

Do I need a partner?
No. You may bring a partner if you wish, but we generally rotate partners several times during lessons so that everyone gets a chance to dance. Rotation also teaches dancers to lead and follow different people.

How much are club dues?
If you decide to regularly attend lessons and events, that's great! The next step is to pay semesterly club dues. We offer a variety of classes each week. You are allowed to attend lessons up to the highest class you pay for. Club dues may change depending on semester, check out our 'joining the club' section for current due rates.

What do my dues pay for?
Your dues mainly go toward professional coaching, music and sound systems, special and social events, and OSU's own dance competition, the Annual DanceSport Classic. If you compare dues to the rates at local dance studios, you will find that DanceSport at OSU offers students an exceptional value.

How are lessons taught?
Beginner and Intermediate classes are taught by experienced student teachers. We bring in professional dance instructors to teach the Technique, Bronze and Silver level classes.

Do I have to compete?
No one is required to compete. However, many of our dancers do compete because it's fun and is a great motivator for practice.

What dances do you teach?
We teach a wide variety of ballroom dances. They include, but are not limited to - ChaCha, Rumba, Swing, Samba, Jive, Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Merengue, Bachata, and Salsa.

When are classes taught?
Classes are taught autumn and spring semesters. Unfortunately, due to teaching availability, no classes are taught during the summer.

What is the mailing list for?
The mailing list is how we officially update club members about what's going on with the club.
