Who are you? |
DanceSport at OSU is both a social and competitive ballroom dancing club. We teach dancers of all experiences. No previous experience is required. Beginner and Intermediate classes are taught by experienced student teachers. Professional dance instructors are brought in to teach the Bronze and Silver level classes. |
How do I join? |
Feel free to show up to a lesson. The first lesson is completely free. Check out the schedule for lesson times. If you would like to join the mailing list please send an email to presidents@dancesportosu.org requesting to be put on the mailing list. |
What should I wear? |
Wear
anything that you feel comfortable moving around in.
The most important article of clothing is footwear.
Since you may be pivoting or spinning on your feet,
flip-flops are not recommended. Ballroom dance
shoes are great to have, but are not necessary for
learning beginner steps. |
Do I need a partner? |
No. You may bring a partner if you wish, but we generally
rotate partners several times during lessons so that
everyone gets a chance to dance. Rotation also
teaches dancers to lead and follow different people. |
How are lessons taught? |
Beginner and Intermediate classes are taught by experienced student teachers. Professional dance instructors are brought in to teach the Bronze and Silver level classes. |
How much are club dues? |
If this is your first quarter and you are a student in the beginner class, it is $15, $20 if you are a returning member in the beginner class. If this is your first quarter and you are a student in the intermediate class, it is $25, $35 if you are a returning member. Bronze and Silver lessons are both $35. The fee for all non-students is $50 per quarter. Students only need to pay for the highest level they are attending, and may attend as many lessons per week as they like for no extra cost, including the Ballroom Based Cardio class on Thursday nights. |
What do my dues pay for? |
Your
dues mainly go toward professional coaching, music and
sound systems, special events, and OSU's own dance
competition, the Annual DanceSport Classic. If you
compare quarterly dues to the rates at local dance
studios, you will find that DanceSport at OSU offers
students an exceptional value. |
Do I have to compete? |
No
one is required to compete. However, many of our
dancers do compete because it's fun and is a great
motivator for practice. |
What dances do you teach? |
We teach a wide variety of ballroom dances. They are but are not limited to Bachata, Chacha, Foxtrot, Jive, Merengue, Paso Doble, Quickstep, American & International Rumba, Salsa, Samba, Swing, Tango, Viennese Waltz, and Waltz. |
When are classes taught? |
Classes are taught autumn, winter and spring quarters. Unfortunately, due to teaching availability, no classes are taught during the summer quarter. The schedule for the upcoming quarter will be posted when finalized. |
